Orthopaedics

The Trust's Orthopaedic services provide:

  • Primary and revision joint replacement surgery for the hip, knee and shoulder
  • Upper limb surgery including soft tissue shoulder, elbow and hand surgery
  • Foot and ankle surgery
  • Arthroscopic soft tissue knee surgery
  • All general orthopaedic and trauma surgery.

  • South Warwickshire Accelerated Transfer Team (SWATT) facilitates early discharge of patients undergoing joint replacement surgery.

    Virtual Fracture Clinics

Following attendance at A&E, fractures or possible fractures are referred on to the Virtual Fracture Clinic.

The Orthopaedic Consultants review the x-rays the following day virtually. This means injuries are assessed initially by the team without the need for you to attend hospital.

Patients are then called to be given advice and to be informed whether or not an appointment within the hospital is needed.

    Clinics / wards

Inpatient care is provided in a 42 bedded Trauma and Orthopaedic unit across two main wards: Greville (Elective) and Thomas (Trauma). Elective surgery patients are cared for in a MRSA free environment.

All elective patients will undergo an assessment in Pre-Operative Assessment Clinic (POAC) to ensure they are medically fit for surgery.
