The Women’s Unit

This is where you go for the Antenatal Assessment Unit (AAU) and Antenatal Clinic. Antenatal Clinics are also offered at Stratford Hospital.

Maternity Assessment Suite (MAS)

Also known as Maternity Triage. Triage is where patients are assessed to determine the urgency of their need for treatment. Patients will then be treated in order of clinical need, not the time they arrived.

Labour Ward

Situated at Warwick Hospital. For those whose births require additional care and support.

Labour Ward Theatres

We have two obstetric theatres that are integrated into our Labour Ward. This is so we can transfer you quickly and safely into theatre if needed.

Bluebell Birth Centre

Our midwifery-led birthing unit at Warwick Hospital. If both you and your baby are well, you might choose to give birth here. Talk to your midwife if you are considering giving birth in Bluebell, they can give you more information and discuss whether this is a suitable option for you and your baby.

Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU)

Also known as a Neonatal Unit. Our SCBU cares for babies born unwell or premature who may need extra support with breathing, feeding and keeping warm.

Swan Ward

Swan Ward offers postnatal care. Inductions of Labour are also carried out here.

Transitional Care

Provided on Swan Ward. Transitional care is the support given to babies who are well enough to be cared for at the bedside with their parents but who need a little extra assistance beyond the usual postnatal care given.

Scanning Appointments

Routine scanning appointments take place in the Women’s Unit at Warwick Hospital and at Stratford Hospital. You’ll be advised where to attend your appointment.

We understand how important it is for our patients to be supported by loved ones while they are in our care. We endeavour to ensure the needs of our patients and their loved ones are met at all times and fully recognise the importance of having a flexible approach to visiting. If you have any queries regarding your visits, please speak to a member of staff.

If you require any support or additional flexibility to enable you to visit, please do speak to the ward or department who will endeavour to help you.

Visitors

Visiting hours are between 12.00 – 19.00, seven days a week at Warwick Hospital, Leamington Rehabilitation Hospital and Stratford Hospital.

  • A patient can have up to two visitors at their bedside at a time.
  • The two visitors can be different people over the duration of the patient’s stay.
  • Visitors are encouraged to visit during mealtimes to support our staff with helping patients eat and drink during these periods.
  • Additional visiting is in place for carers, and for patients who are receiving end-of-life care. Please talk to the nurse-in-charge to discuss any needs.
  • Please wash your hands on entering our hospitals, and when entering and leaving the clinical/ward areas.
  • Please note: during ward rounds, drug rounds or essential procedures, you may be asked to leave the bay/bedside temporarily. This is to prioritise the safety, privacy and dignity of all patients on the ward.
  • We would like to politely remind all visitors that we expect our staff and other patients to be treated with respect.

Supporting Safe Visiting:

Ward staff will ensure visitors/carers are advised if an infection outbreak occurs, and of the risks it may pose to others, especially those who are clinically vulnerable. Visitors will be supported to visit with the following in place:

  • Advice on the appropriate infection control measures required to reduce risks to themselves, e.g. mask wearing
  • Advice on the need to wash/decontaminate hands before and when leaving the area.
  • Asked to inform the nurse-in-charge if they develop symptoms associated with the outbreak and will be advised on visiting exclusion criteria

There may be exceptional circumstances when enabling visiting or accompaniment would pose a risk to the health, safety or welfare of people using the service, or it may pose a risk to staff, visitors, or other people on the premises. In these circumstances, staff will offer the least restrictive options for alternative arrangements, which meets the needs of the patient, their family, friends, or advocates, where appropriate. Virtual communication methods may be explored to maintain contact with loved ones.

If restrictions are unavoidable, the Outbreak Control Team will assess them regularly and remove the restrictions as soon as possible.

All visiting arrangements remain under constant review to ensure the safety of our patients and staff.

Outside of visiting hours, friends and relatives can call the ward directly if they need information.

We also recommend that families of patients nominate one key named contact (typically the next of kin) to our ward staff to ensure that all patient updates can be made easily.

If you are unable to visit, please speak to the ward staff who can arrange to pass on a message.

Please do not visit if you have:

  • Symptoms of a cold, such as a coughing, sneezing, sore throat, or a runny nose.
  • A fever, headache, rash, diarrhoea or have been sick (vomiting)
  • Covid-19

MacGregor (Children’s) Ward

We currently have open visiting for parents and carers, and are able to support one parent/carer to be on the ward overnight.

Children Visiting

Parents/Guardians should consider whether it is suitable for children to visit.

The visiting of children and young people should be arranged with the Nurse in Charge prior to the visit to the ward.

All children remain the responsibility of the Parent/Guardian, and must be under the direct supervision at all times.

Leamington Rehabilitation Hospital

Children Visiting - This is a hard decision for parents to make as they may be unsure if visiting will benefit the child, the decision to visit should be based upon the age of the child, the condition of the patient and the child’s desire to visit.  CERU clinical staff can offer support, literature and advice to help parents manage this.

Specific caring roles

We hugely value the role of carers. We will enable visiting for named carers wherever possible.

We’re proud to support John’s Campaign, which is a national campaign supporting the rights of carers to stay with their loved ones in hospital. It is for patients with dementia or similar conditions that may make them vulnerable or at risk of decline without their carer being present. This can be to support with personal care, nutritional intake and for comfort. Please discuss this will the ward team.

End of life care

Special arrangements are in place for the family/friends of patients receiving end-of-life care, and to facilitate spiritual/religious support from external chaplaincy teams. Please discuss directly with the nurse in charge.

Maternity services

Labour Ward and Bluebell Birth Centre

Two birthing partners are permitted on Labour Ward. If additional support is required, please speak to your midwife about this in the antenatal period and a plan can be made to accommodate needs.

Patient’s children

Only siblings of the baby are able to visit.

Swan Ward

General visiting is from 14.00-16.00

Mother and Another

One named birth partner to stay 24 hours a day on the ward to support.

Patient’s children

  • Only siblings of the baby can visit Swan Ward.
  • Visiting hours for this are 09.00-21.00 with the named birth partner supervising children at all times.

SCBU

  • Parents, siblings and grandparents of the baby have unrestricted access to SCBU. There can be up to 3 people at each cot at one time.
  • Other visitors are welcome between 18.30 and 19.30.
  • All visitors must be accompanied by a parent.

Emergency Department

One visitor can wait with a patient in the Emergency Department.

Sometimes we need to limit visitors waiting with patients. This may happen during very busy times when we need space for patients.

When this happens, we let visitors know when they arrive.

Outpatients

Outpatients and those visiting our assessment areas may be accompanied by one adult if needed.

Aylesford and Rigby Units

We support patients having one visitor whilst attending for treatment in the treatment suites. We are not able to facilitate children visiting within the treatment suite.

If attending for clinics you are welcome to be accompanied by friends or family.

Warwick Hospital

There are two visitor car parks at Warwick Hospital. These are Car Park A and Car Park B.

Building work is ongoing in parts of the main visitor car park (Car Park A), causing possible disruptions. This work is to support the Trust to develop a new main entrance and elective hub. We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

Stratford Hospital

Work is currently underway to develop a new diagnostic facility. For health and safety reasons, the paved route from the multi-storey car park to Building One will be out of use during the construction period. This has resulted in increasing the patient journey to Building One.

We would encourage visitors to Building One to drop patients off in the "drop off zone" at the front of Building One and then park in the multi-storey car park.

This is where our practice midwifery teams are based. You may be invited to attend a Children and Family Centre in your local area for your antenatal and postnatal care.
